Emilie has been collecting Disney's Kalle Anka & Co Comics, with editions ranging from the 1970's up until the early 2000's. She has been using these as fuel for nostalgic inspiration by studying the character styles, palettes and composition of the pages to aid in her own pieces.
These Comic Compositions have been taken from this archive of material and been transformed by Emilie to add another layer of narrative to the original page. By taking elements of the page, both from the image and text, she experiments with creating visual poetry that works in harmony with the manipulated images. The poems come purely from chance and are not pre-composed, since the method of making is by flipping open a book and selecting random words that speak the most to her.
For these pieces, she has used both her native languages (English and Swedish). In doing so she ties more of her soul into these pieces, the duality of thoughts and memory are presented to be read. For those that do not speak Swedish, the inclusion of English text is an instrument used to aide the viewer in scrutinizing the piece. Like a playful guessing game, are you meant to understand or what does it mean to you?
